What is 14K Gold-Filled?
We use high-quality 14K Gold-Filled chains and findings (clasps, beads, etc.) to create many of our pieces. 14K Gold-Filled (or GF) is created by using a thicker layer of real gold around a base metal (generally copper, brass). By standard, this gold layer should be 1/20th gold by weight (so 5% of the entire piece should be real gold, say if you were to melt it down).
It is considered by many to be the next best thing after solid gold, as it is highly durable, beautiful and long-lasting.
14K Gold-Filled is NOT the same as gold-plating. Gold Filled jewelry has 100x more gold alloy than plating, making it much more durable and long-lasting quality + look-wise.
What does exclusive batches mean?
Each of our jewelry collections and pieces are made in limited quantities. Once the specific style sells out, it is gone forever - so be sure to snag your favs quick!
Can I get a custom sized bracelet or anklet?
Absolutely! We strive to make our pieces accessible for everyone, and ask that you contact us directly with your size and jewelry selection, so that we can make the perfect piece for you.
Custom Sizing is at no extra cost.
Help! My jewelry broke. What can I do?
Geolovers values the quality and care around creating and maintaining our jewelry. If your jewelry (not including rings) has broken, you can send it back to us to repair within one year of purchase. The repair is free, while the customer is responsible for paying to ship the item(s) back and potentially other costs that will be discussed based on the case. Please see the bottom of our Returns page for more information.
Can I get my jewelry wet?
While the best practice is to generally avoid contact with water/chemicals, it also depends on your skin's PH, the water quality, as well as the material your jewelry is made of:
Sterling Silver and 14K Gold-Filled: Generally safe to wear in the water. Store alone, always rinse with clean water if there is contact with chemicals (chlorine, lotions, perfumes...), and pat dry. It is natural for these materials to appear tarnished with time, which is generally easily removed with a jewelry cleaning cloth.
Pearls: The colour of pearls, including freshwater pearls, can be affected by water and/or specifically chlorine + other chemicals. Be sure to rinse with clean water and pat dry if coming in contact with chemicals etc.
18K Gold PVD: Generally water and tarnish resistant, but still best practice to avoid contact with water/chemicals. Avoid humid conditions.
Beaded Bracelets: All depends on the stone(s) used in your bracelet. For example, some opals and quartz can be damaged and lose their colour/quality by coming in contact with water. Other stones, such as Tiger's Eye, are safe to wear in clean water. Please feel free to message us if you are unsure!
See our "Caring for your Jewelry" page for more information on preserving your favourite GEOLOVERS pieces.
Note: Geolovers is not responsible for water-damaged and/or tarnished jewelry, please contact us if you have any questions or concerns.
Where does the name GEOLOVERS come from?
In a secret magic seaside treehouse, far, far, away... We tried to find a word that captured our love for rocks/gemstones, and our love for all kinds of love... and so, the name Geolovers was born.
What is 18K Gold PVD?
PVD stands for Physical Vapour Deposition, which is the process of vacuum coating the base metal with a highly durable gold plating finish. PVD is 10x stronger and more durable than regular gold plating. This process results in water and tarnish resistant jewelry. Best practice for all jewelry is to avoid contact with water/chemicals, and store alone in a dry space!
How much does shipping cost?
Shipping costs depend on your location, and all costs are calculated at the checkout.
For drop-off/pick-ups and/or un-tracked shipping within Canada, you can use the code "CANADASHIP" for free shipping when checking out.
What is slow living/slow-made jewelry?
For us, slow living means cultivating our value of intentionality into our work culture. We believe this is key to creating our own definition of what work should look/feel like - and it is important that we take the time to create high-quality, long-lasting, beautiful jewelry.
With every order made, Geolovers strives to create a culture that goes against the general rules of high-stress, low-reward work systems, and instead focuses on a balance that allows for freedom, enjoyment and fulfillment in what we do.
Where is Geolovers based?
Vancouver, British Columbia.
